Thinking Ethically
Introduction
The definition of morals is moral principles that govern a persons or groups behavior. That being said its comprehendible why companies want ethical senior executives to manage their employees. A company with good ethics builds trust and teamwork among employees. Without it, the business has naughty turnover and low productivity. But ethics is not something that brook be taught in a classroom. Its demonstrated and divided up among each other.
Review/Analysis of the Case
Answer to question 1 -- Theres an expression A fish rots from the head. Its a phrase used with companies with poor ethical leadership. Its not the employees to blame, but rather the senior executives who manage them. This is when mentoring is important. A mentor is a productive senior employee who helps develop a less experienced employee, called the protege. (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2009) If senior executives lead by employment, the jr. execs will follow. If they act unethically, the others will follow. Hence, a fish rots from the head. However, companies may place formal mentoring programs.
In todays culture technology, feedback sessions can be conducted online via chat, conference and email.
Answer to question #2 -- Yes. Ethical leadership influences ethical behavior. By having a school principal financial officer with high ethics, it would influence and give employees the combine to make ethical decisions. The CFO is leading by example and ensures they will support any decision and action make based on ethics. Such leadership will similarly influence employees to strive and continue to be ethical in hopes of climbing the career ladder through coaching, mentoring, goal compass and action planning. (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2009).
